6 Trips Before You Pack for Your Next Trip

With the world opening up again, the chances to travel are becoming more and more frequent – just take our upcoming programmes in Poland for example (clickable link). Whether you’re a seasoned globe trotter or you’ve encountered a recent taste of wanderlust, these tips will help you prepare for any trip so you can get the most out of your next adventure!

The days of expensive accommodation have been and gone. It’s never been easier to book accommodation that is not only well located and comfortable, but budget friendly as well. Plus it can all be done from your phone thanks to apps such as CouchSurfers, Airbnb, Hostel World or even Tripadvisor (there are literally thousands of sites/apps). Plus, with access to real user reviews and price information, you can book with confidence! Ideal for travellers on a budget, backpackers or last minute bookings!

Similar to your stay, getting to your destination has never been easier! Technology has really changed the game here – allowing you to conveniently book and manage flights for any budget. Many budget airlines exist, but finding the best deal can be tricky so be sure to check comparison sites. Some of the best include Skyscanner, Kayak and Student Universe. FoThese sites will allow you to be flexible so you can alter flight times and destinations to your needs. They also include travel and cancelation insurances, which is a guarantee to travel safely and with peace of mind. Good news! You might even save some money to spend on your actual trip!

If you can, get a smartphone. This will be second in line for your best friend abroad. Not only can you keep all your boarding passes and booking confirmations on it (no need for printing), you can manage all your bookings in one place! Use your calendar to set up itineraries, the camera to snap all your memories, and make sure to have a few apps for last minute tips. Apps such as Tripadvisor or Yelp can help you find the best spots to eat and drink, along with advice on all the tourist spots provided by real travelers just like you! Being smart with your phone will not only save you time but money – just be sure to pack a portable charger too!

Pro tip: If you don’t have international roaming from your service provider, cheap, short term sims are very easy to organise.

Take a moment to think back over your fondest memories – you probably weren’t alone right? Travel is always better with a buddy. Not only is it more fun, it’s also safer and cheaper, making it a win win for you both (plus you’ll have someone to take great pics of you!). Should you find yourself looking for someone to come along for the ride, there are plenty of travel buddy groups on Facebook – we even have a Past Mentors page. Join us and find a travel buddy here.

Packing is always tricky – but doesn’t need to be a nightmare. Start by planning your outfits, which will limit the amount of clothes you’ll actually bring. Always check the weather to ensure you’re always prepared and keep to the essentials. Making smart choices can really save you space; wearing jeans more than once and pairing them with multiple outfits, choosing shoes that are both comfortable for all day wear but can still be worn to a bar, and picking a jacket that’s both waterproof and stylish. Nowadays you can purchase everything else you need upon arrival just in case you forget it. As a general rule however (provided your budget isn’t incredibly strict) as long as you have your phone and a charger, your passport and your wallet you’ll be fine!

They say that a picture says a thousand words but sometimes you can’t beat the written word. Always keep your camera ready to snap anything and everything, but if you can, keep a daily journal of your travels. You’ll do and see so much that your camera might miss and you will be able to really reflect on your experiences! Plus your journals will be an excellent souvenir that you can re-visit and re-read for years to come.
