“A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ANGLOVILLE VOLUNTEER“

Reading this you’ve probably heard of Angloville, what we offer and how we can help you travel Europe for free. With the world slowly getting back to normal, with more and more countries – like Poland – starting to reopen cinemas, hotels, bars and restaurants. So now that our programmes are running once more, you might be wondering what it is actually like on a day with Angloville?

The content of the day varies slightly depending on whether you choose an Adult, Junior or Kids programme. However, the main core structure is the same, with morning, afternoon, and evening sessions between meals, fun activities & tours – all provided of course! Here is what you can expect on one of our programmes:

9:00 – 10:00: BREAKFAST

Everyday starts with a buffet breakfasts with the students and your fellow Mentors. No pressure, the group naturally blends in and mixes. Mentors will have informal conversations with students over an orange juice or a coffee. How did you sleep? Do you like the croissant? What do you generally eat for breakfast in your country?

10:00 – 11:00: THE MENTOR MEETING

Here is where you’ll start your day as a Mentor. Every student has a Mentor for the whole week. There will be one Mentor for 2 juniors, one Mentor for 1 adult. This 60 minute session is an entirely dedicated time on the students. The first half of the meeting is a debriefing of the day before and the week; How they’re feeling about the programme and what you can do to help. The second half will be focused on the student’s presentation. You’ll both agree on a topic and prepare a short presentation (5-15 min depending on the level of English) that will be presented in public at the end of the programme. You can help with all aspects, especially grammar, spelling and pronunciation. As a Mentor, you’ll need to take notes to provide feedback to the student and Anlgoville.

Note: students can choose their Mentor at the beginning of the programmes (based on their affinity)

11:00 – 13:00: THE ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS

The famous conversations session that made the success of our Angloville programmes. Mentors and students meet for 50 min, they can have a walk in the park, drink a coffee on the terrace, have a cosy discussion in the lobby of the hotel or near the pool – it’s up to you! These conversations are initiated by the students, depending on the topics they want to talk about. These sessions are 50-min long and can be intense for both of the participants – so we recommend taking a 10 minute break.

14:00 – 15:00: LUNCH

Mentors and students meet at the restaurant, for a rewarding lunch. All diets are supported including vegan, vegetarian. At lunch there is a seating plan, we alternate one Mentor with one student so students don’t group together. We do this to encourage everyone to communicate in English at every moment of the day. The discussions will be informal, generally about food. You’ll be enjoying local and traditional cuisine – afterall, we all love food right?

15:00 – 16:30: FREE TIME

16:30 – 19:30: THE ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS

This will follow the same format as the earlier one-on-one session. Don’t worry, you won’t run out of topics!  We also provide materials, ice-breakers, conversation starters, games, and other tools you can use.

20:30 – 21:30: ENTERTAINMENT TIME

The day is almost over, and everyone deserves to relax right? Now’s the time for playing a game, doing a quiz, or even some yoga or meditation. Perhaps you’d like to run a poetry or movie night?

These activities are organized by the NS Mentors based on their skills; some of them will organize a folk dance workshop, some others will prefer to start a bonfire with a sing-along as an example.

21:30+: SOCIAL TIME

This varies depending on which programme you are attending:

Junior programmes: It’s bedtime! As a volunteer, you’re free to stay in the lobby for a chat with your fellow Mentors or go back to your room.

Adult programmes: The day is now over, so you can enjoy a drink and a nice casual conversation. This isn’t mandatory however, you’re welcome to relax in your room for the rest of the evening.
