How to get your students TEFL trained and fully funded with Angloville & the Turing Scheme?

Since 2011, Angloville has recruited over 4,000 participants for cultural exchange programmes in Europe and has helped around 500 of them a year to become professional ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers.

We offer a UK-accredited, globally recognised TEFL certification together with a fully funded 4-week curriculum within our educational programmes.

Accredited TEFL and 3-week practicum

Our TEFL training combines an online course with real-life practice. The practice programme pairs international English speakers with local English learners – many of them working professionals or ambitious young people – for relaxed discussions in English on personal, academic or business topics.

4-week internship across Europe

Angloville is a way to travel on a budget and discover local culture and traditions while staying in comfortable 3-star venues. It is also a chance to meet peers from 12+ nationalities and make friends from all over the world.

International teaching career

The TEFL scholarship is designed as a stepping stone to an international teaching career. Angloville’s job board advertises paid positions such as online mentor, activity leader and programme coordinator.

Many of our alumni now live abroad, most often in Asia – China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

Example: a 4-week internship in Warsaw, Poland.

Angloville partly sponsors university students’ internships. The cost of the 4-week TEFL internship is £1,500.

Angloville subsidises £1,020 once a participant qualifies. We cover the 150-hour TEFL course, accommodation and full board during the 3-week cultural exchange programme, and 8 nights in a hostel during the TEFL self-study week.

Through the Turing Scheme, in collaboration with UK universities, participants can receive up to £480 towards their living costs.

Frequently asked questions

What is TEFL?

TEFL is a certification as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language. Our scholarship includes a 120-hour online course that gives you a range of teaching techniques, which you then apply during an Angloville practicum package.

Since 2011 we have recruited over 4,000 mentors, around 500 of whom go on each year to work as ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers. The programme is a stepping stone towards a teaching career while travelling. Many of our alumni now live abroad, most often in Asia – China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

The course is delivered in partnership with Premier TEFL. Once you complete the course and the programmes, you receive a TEFL certificate.

What is the online course?

The online course is one of the two parts of our TEFL Scholarship.

  • Online course provided by Premier TEFL
  • In-person teaching practice provided by Angloville

Premier TEFL is an Irish organisation accredited by [TO CONFIRM: accrediting bodies]. The 120-hour online course complements the practicum training and guides you through four key areas of language acquisition: reading, speaking, writing and pronunciation.

The course consists of 10 modules. After each module there is a 10-question test on the material covered.

You will learn to plan and deliver lessons that match student and class learning objectives. You will also become familiar with English grammar terminology and how to teach it at all levels.

You will learn how to manage a classroom and student behaviour, how to create engaging text-based and digital materials, and how to use social media to engage learners.

As you progress, your confidence will grow, so you can step into your first class prepared. You will also be able to look for entry-level jobs on online platforms or work as a freelance teacher.

  • Course access: 6 months
  • Average time to complete: 3–6 weeks
  • Suitable for beginners

  • Free Teaching Online lesson plans

Will I have preliminary training before the programme starts?

Once your application is complete, Angloville provides online training to prepare you for the programme. This preparatory training, called ‘Know-How’ training, consists of a 60-minute video module and a quiz.

Throughout the programme you also receive guidance from your Coordinators team. On the first day they give you a full briefing covering programme details, learner information, the code of conduct and Angloville’s best practices. Our staff are available throughout your stay, so ask for help whenever you need it.

Should I bring extra materials?

Angloville uses a different approach to teaching. There are no conventional lessons, academic routines or grammar-focused courses, no textbooks and no traditional classrooms.

The programme is designed to build confidence in English conversation through a practical approach. That is what our learners expect: the ability to converse in English as it is spoken in everyday life and at work.

Angloville provides all the materials you need, so you do not have to bring your own. You are welcome to bring photos of your hometown, family and friends, or anything about local customs. Our participants are genuinely interested in your life and the traditions of your home country.

Where can I use the TEFL certificate?

Once you hold our TEFL qualification, keep in mind that individual international schools may set their own additional requirements.

If you are a native speaker, opportunities to teach English are available across Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East. The following countries usually apply stricter qualification and hiring criteria and often do not employ non-native English teachers: Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, the UAE and Vietnam.

There are also many websites dedicated to TEFL jobs, such as tefl.com, eslbase.com and eslcafe.com.

How long does it take to get TEFL certified?

The TEFL certification consists of a practicum of up to 280 hours and a 120-hour online course.

The practicum package offers up to 280 hours of live practice using a different method: no books, no traditional classroom teaching and no direct grammar teaching. Instead, we focus on practising English through enjoyable, casual activities. The varied schedule keeps everyone actively involved.

The online course takes 120 hours of study and you have 6 months of course access to complete it. How long it takes varies from person to person. Some participants finish in a single week, others use the full access period. The course is divided into 10 modules, each ending with a 10-question test that you need to pass before moving on.

It helps to plan ahead. You might take one or two modules a day with breaks in between. Set a routine that suits your learning style and stick to it.

How can I find a job after becoming TEFL certified?

If you want to start a professional teaching career, Angloville offers several routes:

  • Join our Angloville Meets project and teach online
  • Become an ESL mentor, an activity leader or a coordinator on our programmes
  • Get a letter of recommendation for our partner schools

The only requirement is that you took an active part in our programme and received good feedback from both learners and the Coordinator team.

To find a job on your own with a TEFL qualification, use online job boards, TEFL-specific websites and social media. Other useful sources include government programmes, private language schools, international schools and online teaching platforms. It helps to identify countries with high demand for English teachers and to narrow your search by location and culture first. TEFL conferences, workshops and local language exchange events are also good places to meet other teachers and potential employers.

Meals and accommodation

Accommodation

Shared rooms are included in the package for all our programmes.

On Kids, Junior, Family and International programmes, participants share a room with other participants of the same gender and a similar age. The number of twin rooms on these programmes is limited. Most of our venues offer triple rooms, always with private bathrooms, and a minority have quadruple rooms.

Meals and dietary requirements

Angloville offers vegetarian and vegan options at most venues. Availability and the specific meals served vary by country and by hotel restaurant.

Halal, kosher, gluten-free and lactose-free diets cannot be reliably catered for, because of local cuisine and supply. We know these needs matter and we apologise that we cannot always accommodate them.

Venues serve a group menu rather than à la carte. If your dietary restrictions relate to meat, choose the vegetarian option. If they relate to dairy, choose the vegan option where available.

Meals are ordered in advance, so it may not be possible to change your dietary option later.

Transport

Where is the meeting point?

The meeting point is usually in the city centre, near public transport (bus, metro, tram) or taxi options (Uber, Bolt, FreeNow). In Poland we suggest jakdojade.pl for local city transport.

All the important details are sent in an info-pack four weeks before the programme starts. We cannot send them earlier, because circumstances change and we want everyone to have up-to-date information.

The departure may be early, between 07:00 and 11:00, and you need to be at the meeting point 10–15 minutes before the stated time. The bus leaves on time, and if you miss it you can only join the programme at your own cost. Many of our venues are isolated, which makes this difficult and expensive.

When do I need to arrive?

We advise international participants to arrive one day before the programme starts, at their own cost (airport transfer, hotel room and similar are not covered).

To reach the first start city, we recommend skyscanner.com for flight deals. Budget airlines within Europe, such as Wizz Air and Ryanair, often have competitive fares.

If you plan to visit several cities in the host country, check that your itinerary is realistic. For travel between programmes and start cities there are budget buses (flixbus.com), an itinerary planner (rome2rio.com) and trains (thetrainline.com, intercity.pl).

When should I leave the host country?

We are cautious about predicting when the Angloville bus returns to the departure city, as traffic and other delays can occur. We generally aim to be back in the city centre by 18:00, but the drop-off point may not be close to the central train station, bus station or airport.

In our experience, catching a train, bus or carpool for an intercity connection on the same day is not a problem.

For flights, book no earlier than 23:00 on the same day, or depart the following day. Airport distance, check-in and security make same-day flights less predictable, and this gives you time to rest before travelling.

Please note that the return time is a forecast and cannot be guaranteed. Our staff will do their best to arrive on time or earlier.

What is not included?

  • Flights from home to the departure city and back (these may be funded through the Turing Scheme)
  • All meals during the free-time week
  • Additional activities not included in the package or in the 3-day Warsaw City Pass
  • Extra expenses (souvenirs, bar bills) during the programme
  • Police clearance application fee
  • Visa support of any kind
  • Travel and health insurance

How to budget your trip

We understand that budget matters when students take part in a programme abroad. Consumer prices in Warsaw are lower than in most UK cities – you can compare current figures on Numbeo.

Below is an indicative budget for the expenses Angloville does not cover. Please check current prices before booking.

  • Flights: compare fares on skyscanner.com. One-way fares to Warsaw are typically lowest in June and rise in July.
  • Public transport: around 3.40 PLN for a 20-minute ticket
  • Meals: around £8 for a main dish and a drink in a restaurant
  • Enhanced DBS check: £10 through Angloville, compared with the standard price of £38
  • Insurance: £12–£16 for a single trip for people with no pre-existing health conditions. Angloville recommends health and travel insurance.
  • Security deposit: £127 secures your places on the Angloville programmes and the free-time week at our partner venues. It is deducted from the £480 total fee for the 4-week TEFL internship, which is payable at least 30 days before the programme starts.

Safety measures and protocol

  1. Comprehensive orientation: on the first day of the programme, participants receive a full orientation covering safety procedures, emergency contact numbers and the code of conduct.
  2. Background checks: staff and international participants may undergo enhanced background checks to protect the programme and its underage participants.
  3. Health and safety guidelines: Angloville and its partner venues follow local health and safety regulations.
  4. Emergency preparedness: programmes are supervised by a trained Health and Safety Coordinator and have emergency plans in place, including first aid kits, access to medical facilities and procedures for handling emergencies.
  5. Support staff: dedicated staff on the programme and in the office are available to deal with any concerns.
  6. Insurance: participants may be required to hold insurance covering medical and travel-related issues. Angloville holds liability insurance, policy number 1012794347.
  7. Rules and regulations: during the online Know-How training and the live briefing on the first day, participants are briefed on rules including alcohol, curfews and behaviour. Participants also receive training on cultural differences and sensitivities.
  8. Regular check-ins: coordinators check in with participants during the programme to make sure they are well and to deal with any concerns promptly.
