FAQ

WHAT ANGLOTEFL CERTIFICATE IS BEST?

Do you want to have a self-study or in-class experience? Want to study on an app? Expect a personal study tutor? All of these factors will impact your decision and will help you develop your skills.

AngloTEFL Scholarship will surely match your personal needs and will help you grow with a career in teaching. Knowing what you’re looking for will help narrow your options and allow you to choose faster.

Employers all over the globe will seek 120 hours of TEFL training for entry level teaching jobs. This is the industry standard and the minimum amount of TEFL training you should undertake.

We guarantee you that we have excellent customer reviews, knowledgeable staff to advise you, heaps of alumni testimonials, quick response times, external accreditation and a path for you to follow once you graduate.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A 120 HOUR ANGLOTEFL SCHOLARSHIP?

In order to complete 120 hours of TEFL training it takes between 4 – 6 weeks for most participants.  Obtain a Level 5 TEFL Scholarship, depending on how much free time you have to study. A longevity of 6 months will be given to you to finish the scholarship from the day you enrol and you can add more time if you run out.

It will be a self-guided way of learning, you wouldn’t need to wait for classmates or teachers because it will have to be done in your prefered time. What’s more is that all of it will be done online.

IS A 120 HOUR TEFL CERTIFICATE ENOUGH?

Yes, 120 hours of training is the standard for entry-level TEFL jobs. With this certification, you can now pursue your teaching jobs internationally and develop skills in areas such as teaching young learners or business English, which we also offer.

Moreover, if you like to obtain a Level 5 TEFL Scholarship we also offer 170-180 hours of guided learning.

DO I NEED A DEGREE TO TAKE A TEFL SCHOLARSHIP?

You do not need a degree or any professional teaching experience to enrol on a TEFL Scholarship. However, a degree is required in certain countries to get the work visa as a TEFL teacher. If you do not have a degree, there are plenty of schools across the world that will open great opportunities for you, also in the online teaching platforms.

To sign up to a TEFL Scholarship you should be a fluent or a native English speaker, have completed High School education, and have excellent written skills.

IS TEFL HARD TO PASS?

If you are a native English speaker, the success rate for passing it is very high. The level of difficulty will depend on which type of programme you will take. For example, fast track TEFL Scholarships are pitched around High School level and require a score of 80% to pass. Keep in mind that the end of module tests can be retaken if you don’t pass the first time around.

A Level 5 TEFL Scholarship has the difficulty level of the first year of university and requires more commitment and effort to pass. The essay style questions on a Level 5 Scholarship will be reassessed if the answers do not meet the required standard.

It is possible to fail a TEFL Scholarship, either by not meeting the pass grade (even during multiple attempts) or by failing to complete all of the training work in the first place.

WHAT’S THE AGE RESTRICTION TO TAKE TEFL SCHOLARSHIP?

The minimum age to take a TEFL Scholarship is 18 years old. However, employers all over the globe will often seek candidates who are aged 21+. This happens in cases where they also require a degree level education as part of the job requirements or at least so that the candidates have had time to gain some life experience in professional settings.

That said, some employers are open to hiring younger teachers for kindergarten roles and summer camp positions.

AM I TOO OLD TO TEACH ENGLISH ABROAD?

There are no strict age limits for teaching English abroad. However, keep in mind that you will be under employment rules of the country in which you plan to teach – not your home country.

For example, the local labor laws in China would see a worker retire much sooner than within an EU country. The cultural factors will influence recruitment preferences of employers.

DO I NEED TO SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE TO TEACH ENGLISH ABROAD?

You do not need to speak a foreign language to get hired in TEFL. In fact, many employers will prefer if you do not speak the local language as it prevents you from using it in the classroom. Remember, your goal is only to speak English to students. And as much as possible, we restrict participants and students from speaking other languages.

Here’s a great tip for you: Always remember to use common and everyday phrases in communicating with other people. In that way, your new found community will appreciate your effort to localize with them. In some Spanish speaking countries where English is less commonly known, a basic understanding of the language will be valuable in your social life.

WHICH COURSE FOR TEACHING ENGLISH ONLINE?

To teach online successfully and to meet the requirements of the online teaching platforms, you will need a minimum of 120 hours TEFL training. This is an industry standard comprehensive online training.

Since you will not be in a physical classroom setting, you will have to clearly check on which teaching methodology or techniques you can apply and adapt. This is one of the things that we do on our programmes – teaching and learning English without being in a traditional classroom setting, it has been effective through the years. After the training, there are a lot of platforms online that offer support with this scholarship where you can teach.

TEFL teachers can continue their professional development by taking a 30-hour Specialization modules (Teaching Young Learners, Business English), which Angloville also offers.

CAN I FAIL THE ANGLOTEFL SCHOLARSHIP?

There is only a low chance to fail in the AngloTEFL Scholarship. As long as you have a high enough fluency level of English, it’ll be easier for you to pass the scholarship.

Most people who fail either do so by not meeting the pass grade (after multiple exam attempts) or by failing to complete all of the training work in the first place.
